CNYTrust in final round of fund raising for school
June 1st, 2004
CNYTrust has begun its final round of fund raising to build a school in Hebei by February 2005. After its latest fund raising event, The Chinese New Year Ball at Cambridge University, CNYTrust only has a small amount £2,000 left to raise before it reaches its target of £13,500.
CNYTrust's Trustees have undertaken to try and raise this amount through donations over the summer period in order for the school to be started on time the funds need to be in place by August 31, 2004.
The school site was selected after one of the Trustees visted the village in June of this year. Among one of the poorest villages in Hebei; Da Miao village has an average annual income per person of just RMB 600. Although the area ear marked for the donation has a building used as a school, 80% of the school was evaluated as being too dangerous to use. Recent renovation has kept government inspectors from closing down the school however the basic structure of the school remains the same and is a constant threat to the well being of the school teachers and the children.
CNYTrust also selected the area as it was within 5 hours of Beijing and accessible enough to support future programs of language exchange and partnership with CNYTrust.
If you would like to make a donation to CNYTrust to help build the school you can donate online via our donation page. Online donations are processed by Justgiving, a leading UK charities' donation service. On behalf of the school children of Da Miao village we are deeply grateful for your donation.
